Sharon Schick is Of Counsel in Caplin & Drysdale's Washington, D.C., office.  Prior to joining Caplin & Drysdale in 2009, she practiced in the trademark and copyright practice areas of several other prominent Washington, D.C., law firms.

Services

Ms. Schick counsels businesses and nonprofit organizations on the protection, enforcement, and management of their intellectual property rights, with particular emphasis on trademark and copyright matters.  Her practice also includes advising clients on Internet, computer, and social media-related issues.  She regularly assists clients by providing:

  • guidance on registration and licensing of trademarks and strategies for brand protection and enforcement of trademark rights;
  • counsel on acquisition and protection of trademark rights, including the selection and clearance of marks, and analysis of conflicting marks;
  • representation in corporate transactions involving licensing, assignment, and sale of intellectual property rights;
  • advice on protection of rights in copyrightable works, including negotiating license agreements, rendering advice on the federal Copyright Act, and registering claims of copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office; and
  • advice on creation of policies and agreements for websites, including terms of use and privacy policies, and guidance on domain name issues.

Highlights

Ms. Schick regularly advises nonprofit organizations on management of their intellectual property assets and negotiates and drafts a wide range of agreements concerning intellectual property rights. She has extensive experience prosecuting applications for registration of marks in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office covering a wide variety of fields. Ms. Schick has participated in registration disputes before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and in federal court litigation involving complex copyright and trademark issues. She also handles issues related to cybersquatting, false advertising, and trade secrets.
