Natalie Punchak joined Caplin & Drysdale as an Associate in 2015 after being a Summer Associate with the firm in 2014.  Ms. Punchak focuses her practice in a number of areas, including:

  • advising corporate and individual clients on U.S. inbound and outbound corporate tax planning strategies involving matters such as double taxation and cross-border treaties;
  • helping nonprofit organizations, including large public charities, religious organizations and private foundations, apply for and maintain their tax-exempt status and navigate corporate governance issues; and
  • providing tax and ERISA analysis for sponsors of employee benefit plans, including for-profit and governmental employers.


Ms. Punchak earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Certificate in Business Economics and Public Policy at the Wharton School of Business in 2015. In law school, Ms. Punchak was an Associate Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law and the Managing Editor of, the leading online source of regulatory news, analysis, and opinion. She also worked as a human rights and law fellow at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Geneva and at Barclays' public policy department in London. Additionally, Ms. Punchak founded Students for Technological Progress, a public service organization. She earned several awards and honors while at Penn Law, including the Distinguished Public Service Award and the International Summer Human Rights Fellowship.

At the University of Oxford, Ms. Punchak received her Master of Public Policy. There, she was a Joseph L. Allbritton Fellow and won the Dean's Award, the George Kounelakis Prize, and the Brasenose College Prize for leadership and academic excellence. Ms. Punchak also rowed in the women's first boat at Brasenose College Boat Club.

Ms. Punchak received her bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in Government and English from Georgetown University. During her time at Georgetown, she worked in the Civil Litigation Division of the Attorney General's Office of the District of Columbia and in the Investigations Division of the Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia. She also earned the distinction of being a Rhodes Scholar finalist.

A native of Russia, Ms. Punchak is fluent in Russian, and is proficient in Spanish.
