The American College of Tax Counsel has elected Niles A. Elber as a Fellow, an honor reserved only for those who have made an exceptional contribution to their profession.  The College provides a venue for lawyers to promote sound tax policy and to engage in thoughtful discussion with the government about matters affecting the tax system.  As part of its mission to improve the tax system, the College provides recommendations to Congress and the Internal Revenue Service for improving the nation’s tax laws and the way that they are interpreted and administered.

As a Member of Caplin & Drysdale’s Tax Controversies Group, Mr. Elber helps U.S. taxpayers (residing in the U.S. and abroad) resolve or minimize their civil and criminal tax problems, as well as assists clients who need to come into compliance with their U.S. tax obligations.  With considerable experience handling offshore compliance matters, he has represented hundreds of clients in voluntary disclosures, FBAR penalty exams, and civil and criminal tax investigations related to unreported foreign bank accounts. Moreover, Mr. Elber handles tax controversies at all levels including IRS examinations, appeals and collection matters, and proceedings in federal court.
