Mortimer Caplin and Other Former IRS Commissioners Admonish Congress for IRS Budget Cuts

November 13, 2015
In a joint November 9, 2015 letter, seven former Internal Revenue Service commissioners, including Caplin & Drysdale founder Mortimer M. Caplin, said that the U.S. Senate and House Committees on Appropriations' proposed cuts of $838 million and $470 million, respectively, were alarming for an agency "stretched to the breaking point."  The group argued that more funding would provide a much-needed boost to U.S. revenue collection and taxpayer services.
Mr. Caplin served as IRS Commissioner under the administrations of Presidents Kennedy and Johnson.  He recently commemorated Caplin & Drysdale's 50th anniversary and in 2016 will celebrate his 100th birthday.  The Firm is recognized as one of the leading law firms in the country focused on providing clients with a full range of legal services in the areas of tax, tax controversy, and international tax, as well as complex litigation,  private client, bankruptcy, exempt organizations, political activity, employee benefits, and corporate.
