The University of Virginia Remembers Ruth Caplin

Date: 2/2/2015

Ruth Sacks Caplin, wife of Caplin & Drysdale Founder Mortimer M. Caplin, is featured in the inaugural issue of U.Va. ARTS Magazine in an article commemorating her legacy. Mrs. Caplin, who passed away in 2014 at age 93, is fondly remembered by the University of Virginia as having a "lifelong love affair with the arts." The University erected the state-of-the-art Ruth Caplin Theatre as a tribute to Mrs. Caplin's many contributions to the arts world, including her screenplay for the film Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, careers in painting and fashion design, as well as numerous poems Mrs. Caplin penned for Caplin & Drysdale's holiday greetings and other special occasions. Mr. Caplin serves as Honorary Chair to the University of Virginia Arts Council.

Mrs. Caplin is survived by her husband of 72 years, Mortimer M. Caplin; her four children Lee, Michael, Jeremy, and Cate; eight grandchildren Daniel, Conrad, Ella, Bennett, Sophie, Phoebe, Aubrey, and Harriet; and two great-grandchildren Victoria and Carter.
