New York Times Quotes Beth Kaufman on Senator Warren's Plan to Tax the Wealthy

Senator Elizabeth Warren has embraced – as part of her presidential campaign – a new wealth tax where the government would tax accumulated wealth, shifting the burden of paying for government toward families that have accumulated fortunes in the hundreds of millions or billions of dollars. ''Presumably, a wealth tax would apply to the same sort of base [as the estate tax], except that it would be annual rather than just when a person dies,'' said Beth Shapiro Kaufman, an [estate planning] lawyer at Caplin & Drysdale.
