Mortimer Caplin Receives Swanson Courage Award from the University of Virginia

Date: 10/26/2015

On Sunday, October 25, 2015, Caplin & Drysdale's Founding Member, Mortimer M. Caplin, was among the recipients of the inaugural Swanson Courage Awards, named after Gregory Hayes Swanson, the first African American to attend the University of Virginia (U.Va.).  Mr. Caplin, the first Jewish law professor at U.Va., helped lead the law faculty in a unanimous vote to admit Mr. Swanson to U.Va. in the face of opposition from the school's board of visitors.  For more information on the Swanson Courage Awards and Mr. Swanson's impact on the civil rights movement, please visit this link
