Mark Matthews is Quoted Regarding Government's Crackdown on Non-Swiss Banks

"I can say that within the Justice Department they by and large follow the facts where they lead.  There's a strong esprit de corps according to which they don't do special favors," says Mark Matthews of the Washington law firm Caplin & Drysdale, who previously headed the criminal division of the IRS. "It's just too dangerous," he says, and "it could have the opposite effect." Matthews suggested that the Justice Department for reasons of credibility must now take up a non-Swiss bank. Otherwise, "it looks as if they have a fixation with the Swiss.  I believe we are going to see banks and their customers in Israel and Asia being picked up."
