Leila Carney is an associate in Caplin & Drysdale's Washington, D.C. office. She joined the firm in 2004 after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law.
ServicesMs. Carney’s practice focuses on domestic tax controversy and planning. She has submitted protests and handled administrative appeals. She has advised clients on creating business practices that are in compliance with changing regulatory regimes, including those governing taxpayer consent to disclosure of tax return information, foreign bank account reporting (FBAR), and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. Ms. Carney has also submitted ruling requests and assisted clients in submitting comments on proposed regulations.
Furthermore, she has represented clients in sensitive audits with a risk of allegations of tax fraud or securities fraud. She has represented clients on collection matters such as installment agreements, offers in compromise, lien releases, and innocent spouse petitions. Ms. Carney also has experience in obtaining tax-exempt status for public and private charities as well as trade associations.
