Courtney Dunbar Jones is an associate in Caplin & Drysdale's Washington, D.C. office. She joined the firm in 2008. Prior to joining Caplin & Drysdale, she practiced in the exempt organizations group of another law firm for four years.

Services

Ms. Jones provides comprehensive tax and intellectual property advice to exempt organizations. She advises a versatile range of tax-exempt entities, including megachurches, religious and educational organizations and other large nonprofits, on tax and intellectual property issues. She has extensive experience in providing counsel on taxation matters related to qualification for tax-exempt status, use of for-profit subsidiaries, lobbying and political activities, unrelated business income tax, executive compensation, charitable solicitation registration, and corporate governance.

Due to her extensive experience across two practice areas, she has also assisted clients regarding ownership and use of intellectual property and its impact on their tax-exempt status. She has advised non-profit clients on issues related to the management of intellectual property portfolios such as registering trademarks and copyrights, negotiating license agreements, and protecting against infringement.

Professional Activities

Ms. Jones speaks at professional conferences regarding tax rules pertaining to nonprofit organizations, particularly churches and religious organizations. Recent speaking engagements include:
